After an endless sequence of promises and threats, within a few months the Trump/Vance government will have to make decisions that have far-reaching impact on our society. A majority of voters who chose him have recognized his flaws but see him as an iconoclast, someone who breaks the idols. Voter discontent was focused on the lack of affordability of everything, the residue of the pandemic and government’s attempt to mitigate its impact.
Wall Street and economic gurus will keep warning Trump/Vance that expanding tariffs, tinkering with health care coverage and increasing the towering deficit will only make it worse. It may even lay the foundation for a real time depression and reduce world reliance on the dollar and Treasury debt.
What impact the election might have on the Ukraine and Gaza wars is a more immediate question.
Will the seriously wounded Democratic Party find a new set of messenger savants to reach out and motivate the alienated?
One thing remains constant. The torrent of misinformation that pollutes the social platforms will not diminish soon and our capacity to tell truth from lies will not materially improve. It’s all “very interesting” to quote Dr. Strangelove.
