Ideology Trumps Efficiency
The administration’s effort to abate the closure of several obsolete coal and oil burning electricity generating plants is inconsistent with the lip service paid to cutting waste and saving money. The electricity generated is more expensive than any other source and they pollute the atmosphere. The justification is the fictitious “energy emergency”.
The EPA intends to cancel regs that restrict pollutants emanating from coal and gas using power plants. Climate cataclysm and health are no longer a factor in public policy. Commentators liken Trump to two notable Roman Emperors, Commodus and Nero, as manifestations of America’s decline. Both were narcissistic.
Anecdotal or Prophetic?
A tech company, Mechanize, is developing AI software which, the founders assert will ultimately replace virtually all human work. Income will be allocated to all displaced workers who can presumably devote all their time to leisure. (NYT 06/11/2025)
The retail sector of the economy is imploding. The SF Chronicle reports (06/12/2025) that Macys intends to close 150 stores. CVS will close 270 locations. JCPenny and Walgreens are contracting.
Brave New World? Some authors of the assault on government suggest that it can be replaced by technocentric gurus presumably relying on robots to patch the streets.
Is there a common thread?
